IAX / Asterisk

Experience Level: Intermediate

I have been following the AsteriskPBX project for about 6-7 years. It has matured well, and now is a very popular solution for companies wanting to move away from traditional PBXs, over to VOIP. I managed many production deployments of Asterisk, and I have had an instance running at home for 4 years.

Things I like about Asterisk

  • Easy to build and configure.
  • Lots of hardware interoperability options.
  • There are now many bulk VOIP providers, allowing anyone to setup their own PBX.

Things I don't like about Asterisk

  • The code has gremlins.
